Tree Climbing

Using a Chainsaw with a Rope and Harness – 2 Day Course

Instruction in using a chainsaw with a rope and harness in a tree. Suitable for those with little or no experience, followed by assessment on a separate day for an NPTC Certificate of Competence in Unit CS39.

Course Outline

Regulations and industry best practice
Working in the tree crown
Starting procedures
Correct handling of the saw
Accurate use of the saw to cut lightweight and medium weight branches

Training is a legal requirement.

The provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) require employers to provide adequate training to ensure that chainsaws and related equipment are operated only by employees who have received appropriate training.

The training is in preparation for an N.P.T.C. assessment for Unit CS39 held on a

Brushcutter / Trimmer

Brushcutter / Trimmer 2 Day Course

Instruction in maintaining and operating brushcutters and trimmers.

Course Outline

maintenance (engine, drive system and gear head)
selecting the appropriate cutting head
re-assembly
maintaining and fitting the cutting head
correct personal protective clothing
adjusting the machine and harness
inspecting the site and identifying hazards
environmental considerations
fuelling
starting the machine
cutting a test area
after-care and safe transportation

Training is a legal requirement.

The Provision and Use of work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) require employers to provide adequate training to ensure that chainsaws and related equipment are operated only by employees who have received appropriate training.

On the last day of the course the trainee is assessed and on achieving the required standard, will be awarded a Lantra integrated training and assessment certificate. Excavators – 3 Day Course

Instruction in the safe operation of 180 and 360 degree excavators. Suitable for operators with little or no experience working in the agriculture, fencing, groundcare, horticulture, landscaping industries and on construction and industrial sites.

Course Outline

Operating on rough and sloping ground
Setting the machine for excavation
Operating the front shovel & the backactor (180 degree excavator)
Excavating in different types of ground
Placing spoil into various sized vehicles
Grading, spreading and levelling ground
Removing and re-attaching buckets
Manoeuvring in confined areas

Training is a legal requirement.

Reinforcing the Health & Safety at Work Act, the Provision & Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER) require employers to ensure that machines are operated by employees who have received appropriate training in their safe use.

Upon successful completion of the course and meeting the required standard, candidates are awarded a Lantra integrated training and assessment certificate.

Shorter courses are available for experienced operators who need to gain this qualification or renew an existing certificate.

Tractor Driving – 4 Day Course

Instruction in the safe operation of tractors. Suitable for tractor drivers with little or no experience working in agriculture, amenity, forestry, industrial and horticulture industries.

Hitching / manoeuvring with trailed / mounted implements

Safe Use of Pesticides 1 Day Course

As pesticides are potentially harmful substances it is essential that they are handled, applied and stored by people who have received proper training.

Course outline

the requirements of current legislation
using pesticides appropriately and safely
keeping records
storing pesticides correctly
cleaning equipment
disposing of unwanted pesticides and containers
dealing with contamination and poisoning incidents

The course prepares trainees for NPTC assessment (which is carried out on a separate day) in The Safe Use of Pesticides (PA1)

Field Crop Sprayer 1 Day Course
Hand Held Applicator 1 Day Course
Granular Applicator 1 Day Course

After completion of the Safe Use of Pesticides trainees may undertake one or more of the above courses.

applying pesticides safely and efficiently
identifying and selecting appropriate nozzles or restrictors
preparing and calibrating the equipment
operating the equipment in compliance with current legislation and codes of practice
cleaning equipment
disposing of unwanted pesticides and containers
identifying and rectifying faults
recognising conditions when spraying is inadvisable

Forklift

Industrial Counterbalance & Telescopic Fork Lift 2 – 5 day courses

The duration of these courses ranges from 2 – 5 days, depending upon the experience of the operator. An experienced operator would require a 2 day course and those with little or no experience would require between 3 and 5 days training. If the trainee has very little experience with a fork lift but is a car and / or a tractor driver, he would probably be able to reach the required standard within 3 days.

how to avoid the potential dangers of lift truck operation

how to assess loads and move them safely

how to get the best from your truck in different conditions

Upon successful completion of the course and meeting the required standard, candidates are awarded a Lantra integrated training and assessment certificate.

A 1-Day refresher is also available for those who hold a current certificate.
