EMERGENCY FIRST AID AT WORK
This 1 day course is suitable for individuals who:
- would like to gain the Emergency First Aid
at Work Certificate (in accordance with Health &
Safety, First Aid, Regulations 1981)
- need to renew their existing Emergency
First Aid at Work certificate by
attending a refresher course
- would like to learn how to or to improve their ability to deal with
emergency situations
Course outline
Trainees are first taught how to make an initial assessment when faced with an
emergency situation and then to take the appropriate action as necessary. The
syllabus includes:
- seeking help from the emergency services
- carrying out basic life-saving techniques, including dealing with shock,
clearing the airway, resuscitation techniques etc
- identifying the cause and dealing with specific problems, including burns &
scalds; choking; poisons; strokes; heart failure; fractured or broken bones;
head injuries etc
Up to date advice is given on infection and
hygiene, first aid materials and the contents of first aid kits. During the
course trainees have the opportunity to practice emergency techniques on dummies
provided.
The HSE Approved Certificate of Training is valid for 3 years. Annual 'updating
of skills' refreshers are available for first aiders.

FIRST AID AT WORK
This 3 day course is suitable for individuals who:
- would like to gain the First Aid at Work
statutory Certificate , in compliance with the current Health & Safety
(First Aid) Regulations 1981 and become a nominated First Aider in the
workplace.
- need to renew an existing First Aider
certificate by attending a refresher course.
- would like a broader knowledge of first aid
than that provided by the 1 day course.
Course outline Trainees are first taught how to make an initial assessment when faced with an
emergency situation and then to take the appropriate action as necessary. The
syllabus includes all of the topics covered in the 1 day course but in greater
detail:
- dealing with accidents and illness
- using a first aid kit
- simple record keeping
- resuscitation
- treatment of an unconscious casualty
- choking
- treatment of heart attack
- control of bleeding
- burns and scalds
- poisoning
- fractures
- shock
The HSE Approved First Aid at Work Certificate is valid for
3 years. Annual 'updating of skills' refreshers are available for first aiders.
2 day refresher courses for recertification of first aiders, including
re-assessment,
are available.
